Daze 4-6 Salamanca Mon Amour

I have fallen in love with Salamanca. What a magnificent city.

The 420 Km trip from Basque coast was a doddle. Motorway, no traffic, sun. The Don Quijote campsite is 6km from the centre of Salamanca. The reception and restaurant staff were friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is nothing to look at but my God the food (more later). Reservations are a must and I could not get in before 9pm each of the 3 nights I stayed. I intended to cook but didn’t feel up to it.

I spent 2 days walking over 20k steps around Salamanca taking photos and taking my time. Street cafes and tapas bars are everywhere and the food is fantastic. Most of the buildings in the centre are 500 to 800 years old and beautifully preserved. I climbed 200 steps to the bell tower of St. Martin de Tours to get a city view.

On my second day I visited the university faculties. The old university is 800 years old and has some 500 year old lecture rooms in their original state. All buildings have large cloistered squares at their centre. I wanted to enrol in anything! I also visited Zorita Organic farm just outside Salamanca as this is the source for a large chain of shops throughout Spain. I will do a gourmet blog to follow.
